While most of us were eating Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, authorities in Mexico and California were seizing between twenty to thirty tons of marijuana. The police found another highly “sophisticated” tunnel leading from Mexico into two warehouses in California. Obviously drug trafficking has changed with the times, but something needs to be done to prevent these tunnels from being built. Most of the force is used around the border, but obviously some people must be allocated to prevent these tunnels from being run underneath the border of Mexico and the U.S. This issue should be paired with the current emigration problem in the United States. Both need to be dealt with to keep our country safe from terrorists, or in this case drug dealers.

This is an issue that could be categorized under the illegal immigration dilemma. We need to improve on our defense toward this issue whether it is under or above ground. JUst because we found one tunnel does not mean that there are not many more to which we have no clue about. More and more people are having their way with out border and consider it to be a joke. Whether they are chasing the real American dream, or making illegal opportunities such as these tunnels on their own, something needs to be done.

Not only does this issue deal with illegal importation of drugs, it also stresses the importance of national security. Although our national security policies have become extremely strict after 9/11, little things such as this being overlooked can create enormous problems for our county as a whole. Illegal immigration comes into play and can even link to terrorist activity. This is completely unsettling topic due to the fact that that mobility in these tunnels was occurring. Who knows how long these tunnels have been active and how many of them there are.
