Workers who helped move debree from the 9/11 site say to have received health problems as a result. Released on Friday, they will receive 27.5 million dollars in settlement. There are over ten thousand workers asking for the money, and they will decide weather to accept it or ask for more. Their have been multiple other cases where settlements have been in the millions. Judges have said the results have been fair and reasonable.

The people and brave volunteers who helped move and clean up the 9/11 aftermath and destruction, have complained about having health problems due to what they were exposed to at the site. These men and women are ready to receive a large settlement from the federal government, in return for the health problems they have and are continuing to suffer from. This article brings into question if they should take the 27.5 million dollar settlement and I cannot see any reasons why they would not. This is a very large sum of money to receive from performing an act that one did on their own free will. In these tough economic times it is only fiscally responsible to take the offer while one still has it.

While the settlement was for millions it would be interesting to know what percentage the lawyers from the case are receiving. These workers were brave and patriotic and when their health was failing our country should have paid up without having to be taken to court. It is a broken system when a worker gets sick on a job and a company refuses to pay. There is already so social regulation but clearly there needs to be more. This is a high some of money but it is doubtful in settlements like this that the worker will see a good percentage of money. -Kayla Carson
