Republicans gained control of the house in the last election and democrats fear that the transition of power will jeopardize their policies on the expiring Bush tax cuts. Democrats want tax cuts extended for all Americans except the wealthiest portion. Republicans on the other hand feel that it is important to extend tax cuts for every American during an economic downturn. This issue has further separated Republicans and Democrats. Congress will meet and debate these tax cuts as well as spending bills. The policy tool that is decided upon will undoubtedly have a great effect of the U.S. economy in the coming years.

It is going to be very interested to watch how President Obama tries to make progress given the transition of power. In order to achieve what he has planned to provide tax cuts, he is going to need substantial citizen approval. The Republicans are working to get what they want in accordance with lining up their candidate for the next election. For President Obama to stand a chance in 2012 he is going to need bipartisan communication during the next 2 years.
ReplyDeleteI agree with David, I think the people will all be very eager to see just how President Obama handles this situation. Its not going to be easy to carry out what he plans and the fact that the people are already extremely critical with their judgements toward him just builds up the hype. For Obama to be successful there is going to have to be some sort of tolerance between the republican and democratic parties. The republicans are going to do whatever they can to hold their ground and keep their power to ensure that they come out on top in the next election and unless Obama tweaks their opinions he does not stand a chance.
