Over 95 Percent of 9/11 Workers Approve Settlement

Just over 95 percent of the of the workers that sued the city of new york over 9/11 have approved of a negotiated settlement that would total 625 million dollars in payouts. City workers including firemen, police officers and others claimed in their lawsuits that the city did not provide adequate protective equipment and supervision, which in turn caused them to develop respiratory and other illnesses that affected them later. individual payments will range from $3,250 to $1.8 million. this was agreed upon after a legal battle lasting 7 years.

  1. This is a problem that i can see being completely legitimate of the people who are suing the government of NY. It is the rights of the workers to have all the equipment necessary for their jobs. In other words, would you want to work for a job that had hazardous elements that will effect your quality of life negatively? Most if not all would undoubtably say no. The payments made out to those who are presently and possibly were affected are legitimate. It should be the courtesy of the state to pay off damages to those involved in, essentially, protecting the state.

  2. I think that this is definitely a tough and terrible situation, but in the end the workers are right. They should be able to perform their line of work without having to worry about developing an illness; especially when they are working for the greater good of their city and people. The city should appreciate how important these workers were in helping with the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. This was a traumatic experience for the entire country and these people are heroes in a lot of peoples books. They deserve their money, especially when the equipment would've helped them and it is the city's job to provide them with the most efficient supplies.
