Iran warns U.S.

In reading the New York Times, there is an article about Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Mr. Ahmadinejad is at the UN and apart from normal topics he mentions that, with his increasingly controversial nuclear programs, he is not backing down or intimidated by America or the UN. He also holds that nothing illegal is going on even though he denies information or access to UN inspectors. Mr. Ahmadinejad also claims that if America brings war to Iran it will be greater than any other American conflict in history. He insists that he will not stop for any means and if any threaten violence he is ready to fight.

This type of claim is a threatening one. It leads me believe that something illegal may very well be going on. Do you think that if the situation escalates that war could erupt between Iran and the U.S.?

New Information Emerges On Hunt for Bin Laden

Do you believe that we should stop the hunt for Bin Laden, even though he deserves everything that would come to him if he was caught? Some seem to see that it is actually causing more short-term and long-term problems along with and extreme number of deaths of American solders. Western intelligence agencies were able to form a detailed grasp of Osama Bin Laden's movements in the years after 9/11; and have come closer to capturing him than anyone else has ever before. Even though this has been stated, U.S. intelligence agencies do not agree with the fact that Bin Laden might be captured soon, They stated that very little light on Bin Laden's movements in the recent years have been known of. On this past Friday, President Obama stated that even though we have not caught Bin LAden al Qaeda has been holed up in ways that it has made them very hard to operate. He also said that Bin Laden has gone deep underground and even lower people of Al Qaeda have been harder to find then ever before. Since the Allie forces seem to have a better grasp on his movements these past few years and seem to be more positive in the capture of Bin Laden, should American forces lay away and let the Allies capture him while we seek military missions what we have more of a chance in succeeding in and making change? What is more important? Is one more important over the other? Is all of this worth the possibility of even more terrorism or more disturbance of the Middle East?

Deep-water Drilling... But not for U.S.

The U.S. Export-Import Bank is in the process of providing a $1 billion loan to PEMEX (the Mexican state oil company.) This is significant because, due to the recent BP oil spill, the Obama administration enforced a hold on U.S. deep-water drilling that is in effect until Nov. 30. The US bank here has said that the hold does not affect their activity in such matters. The use of this money is going to be used for both offshore drilling and a facility to finance sales to U.S. small businesses. An important subject in this matter that the article does not mention though is the NAFTA because it makes trade with Mexico free of tariffs as well as a number of other trade barriers that the U.S., and private companies within, face when dealing with other countries overseas (Saudi Arabia for example.)

Obama Speaks Out Against Pastor’s Plan to Burn Koran

This article reports on President Obama and other world leaders' disapproval of the September 11th Koran burning planned by the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida.

Despite vocal condemnation and warnings of the almost certain global repercussions that would result from such an act, Pastor Terry Jones of the church has not yet indicated that he is willing to cancel the event.

As shocking and horrifying as this is to most Americans, and as terrifying as its virtually inevitable consequences are, there is little to nothing that government officials can do to stop it in addition to what they have already done. Even though this small event would undoubtedly inspire a worldwide wave of violence and hatred directed towards Americans and indeed all Westerners, it would seem that actually forcing the church to cancel the event would be a violation of its right to freedom of speech.

In an age where the amount of blind belief and number of vitriolic leaders seems to multiply every day, it would appear that one of our nation's greatest sources of pride, our democratic freedom, can sometimes cripple us.
